Other fandoms: Wow a new season is coming out, I hope they can live up to our high expectations
Merlin fans: We know they’ll ruin everything but we want it anyway
#scene during which Merlin was the voice of the Merthur/Arlin fans :)

Merlin: I will take your place.Arthur: Merlin - Merlin: What is the life of a servant, compared to that of a prince?Arthur: Well, a good servant’s hard to come by.Merlin: I’m not that good.Arthur: True.
- Merlin, 4x02: The Darkest Hour [2/2]
This moment is absolutely beautiful. The others are all asleep and all their pretences can be dropped. It’s not Merlin the incompetent, clumsy servant and Arthur the arrogant, superior prince, it’s just Merlin and Arthur, two friends. Two best friends, who would die for each other.
Merlin tells Arthur what he thinks he should do in complete honesty. He doesn’t try to hide his thoughts, and he backs up his reasoning with a logic. If Arthur died, Camelot would suffer. If Merlin died - as far as Arthur knows - only a small number of people would be affected. For Merlin to take his place actually makes sense; and yet, Arthur doesn’t even consider it. Not for one second. He tries to resort to humour to distract Merlin with the ‘a good servant is hard to come by’ and ‘true’ comments, but apart from slight smiles, neither fall back onto their tried and tested method of bantering emotional moments away.
I think in this scene we see the real Merlin and Arthur. They’re both tired and worried, and in this moment, by the fireside with the knights asleep nearby, their barriers go down and we see the two people who care for each other without question, who would die for each other. This is Merlin and Arthur for me; this scene sums up everything they are, and everything they will be.
^THIS. A MILLION TIMES THIS.
Thats alright, i didn’t want my feelings anyway…

If an OTP isn’t going to rip your heart out and use it as mulch to fertilize the earth on your grave, then really, what’s the point in having one?
