Buffy denies that Spike is her boyfriend#i just love the progression of these gifs #the first time someone suggests it she finds it completely absurd and laughs loudly #(perhaps a little too loudly) #then next time she actually gets angry at the suggestion #(spike could never be her boyfriend - she could never have feelings for him - no never - what would that say about her?) #in the third one she answers much too quickly out of a desperate need to keep their relationship a secret #and then she has to calm herself before finishing her sentence #(yeah buffy that will really convince her) #the fourth one is the first time she really means it without any hidden meaning behind it #she says it calmly and quietly and also a bit sadly #(he’s not my boyfriend - whatever he was he’s not anymore - it’s over) #in the fifth one she’d so thrown by the question #she hasn’t had time to think about what spike means to her - what he is to her now #she just knows she needs to find him #(she doesn’t even know whether it’s to help him or to kill him - she just needs to find him) #and then the last one #where she denies it not because she’s trying to hide anything or deny her own feelings #but because ‘boyfriend’ is too limited a term for what spike is to her at this point #and because she doesn’t have time for boyfriends or labels - she has a war to fight #(does it have to mean something?) #all she knows is that she needs him there by her side #not because he’s her best fighter #but because he’s in her heart
